Melbourne Development Institute

Effective from 1 August 2005 a subsidiary of GRM International Pty Ltd purchased the business of Melbourne University Private's international projects division including all current development project contracts.

The company is now known as the Melbourne Development Institute (MDI).

Eleven projects were acquired with a total project value of approximately $65 million. These include contracts from AusAID and World Bank as well as private commercial clients.

Of the eleven projects major projects include -

  • the Indonesia-Australia Legal Development Facility which aims to assist Indonesia's legal system and involves key relationships within the Supreme Court and leading government agencies dealing with human rights.
  • Xinjiang HIV/AIDS Prevention & Care which aims to increase the capacity of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
  • Regional Economic Policy Support Facility, involving high level relationships within ASEAN with an objective to provide the ASEAN secretariat with a research facility to support economic recovery and promote close integration between ASEAN countries.
  • Capacity Building for Economic Governance Vietnam which contributes to poverty reduction through promotion of sustainable growth and more efficient and equitable use of public sector resources.
  • Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) Pre departure training in Vietnam – in-country English and academic preparation for 150 AusAID funded scholars planning to undertake post-graduate study in Australia.

GRM is also pleased to welcome to the Group many of MUP's highly experienced and well-respected staff, including the General Manager Mr Ian Hind.

With the purchase also comes an established Melbourne presence and we look forward to the expansion of the GRM Group.
