Environment and Climate Change
The convergence of local and global environmental challenges, such as climate change and biodiversity loss, has resulted in a drive by aid donors and governments to adopt sound environmental and natural resource management strategies. Developing countries are more vulnerable to the immense impact of climate change than higher income countries, as they face the physical impacts from the effects of tsunami, flooding and droughts.
Environmental degradation through climate change is expected to negatively impact agricultural productivity, as it will decrease water quantity and quality in most arid and semi-arid regions, increase the incidence of malaria and other vector borne diseases, as well as harm ecological systems and their biodiversity. Rises in sea levels associated with expected increases in temperature could displace tens of millions of people in low-lying areas and could threaten the very existence of small island states in the Pacific region.
GRM’s approach to these issues integrates economic, social and cultural issues to maximize community and environmentally sustainable benefits. Our teams are lead by experienced managers who adopt practical, hands-on approaches that reflect their local knowledge. GRM has gained experience in implementing:
- Integrated environment programs
- Forestry
- Land and water management
- Policy development
