YOUNG PROFESSIONALS PROGRAM

Jemima Stancombe
Project Coordinator

Jemima Stancombe joined GRM in 2003 and recently completed the Young Professional Program. Prior to joining GRM she completed a 12 month contract with a British NGO in Madagascar.

Jemima has a BA (Hons) in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia, Norwich and as a part of her studies she spent three months at the partnering Makerere University in Uganda and performed a field study on a remote island in Sulawesi, Indonesia, for her thesis. These overseas ventures gave her first-hand experience in the development field, which has been an asset in her current role.

Jemima has been working as GRM's Project Coordinator on the DFID-funded Support to Strategic Planning for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods - Afghanistan project for the last 12 months. She was able to travel to Afghanistan in December 2004 to train the local Project Coordinator who had recently joined the project.  This was a good opportunity to see the project first hand and get a better understanding of the day to day issues that arise in country. Jemima is also the Project Coordinator on the DFID-funded Technical Support and Learning Unit - Zimbabwe.

"I have been interested in International Development for a long time and found upon leaving university that entry level jobs in the field were extremely hard to come by. So it was great to discover GRM's Young Professional Program," Jemima says.

"The Program has given me the opportunity to grow and develop in the sector. As a Young Professional I've been continually exposed to a variety of different areas of work including business development, tender preparation and project coordination. I enjoy the fact that on a daily basis I'm communicating with people all over the world, whether they are in one of the GRM offices overseas, or in one of the many countries we currently work in."
