Joanna joined GRM in July 2003 having just completed a MSc in Development Management at the LSE (London School of Economics and Political Science) within the Development Studies Institute.
She completed a BA Hons in Geography and Development Studies at Sussex University and as part of her undergraduate studies was awarded an Overseas Training Program grant to work in Vietnam for 12 months on a microfinance program. She has also taken part in short-term community assistance programs in Madagascar and Peru.
Joanna worked as a Project Coordinator with GRM UK for just over 12 months before transferring to the GRM Brisbane office where she worked for 18 months as the Project Coordinator on the AusAID Papua New Guinea Targeted Training Facility (PATTAF). Jo transferred again at the beginning of 2006 and is now working in Melbourne at MDI.
“GRM is one of the few organisations to offer a Young Professional development program within the international development field which is why I decided to apply in the first place,” she says.
“I’ve enjoyed the varying aspects of the job, in particular the opportunity to work alongside counterparts in a project context. Since I started no two days have been the same…it’s been a steep learning curve but an immensely worthwhile one! “
