GRM International Completes Successful Local Government Capacity Building Program in Indonesia
In March 2005, GRM brought to a close one of Indonesia’s more successful capacity building initiatives, the Community and Local Government Support Sector Development Programme that focused on strengthening decentralised local governments. As managing consultants, GRM provided management and technical assistance to this $US 150 million ADB loan project since 2000. The Program aimed to strengthen decentralised planning processes in communities most directly affected by the economic crisis of the late 1990s. Since then the Program has worked in 79 districts, with 12,213 villages and 48.4 million people. It has helped those communities complete 21,784 sub-projects affecting their livelihoods ranging from water supply and drainage facilities, small roads and bridges, sanitation facilities, schools, local markets and piers.
